"Bringing spiritual, emotional, educational & material aid to Eastern Europe"

Stickmen For Stats UkraineHistory

MWB has worked in Ukraine since 1960, at the height of the Cold War. In 1986 the Chernobyl disaster resulted in:

  • the displacement of thousands of people and the demise of local industry
  • damage to the economy
  • contamination of water, soil and crops
  • malnutrition, anaemia and reduced immunity to disease.

There is high unemployment and high inflation. Over 100,000 children are living in institutions. Ukraine still suffers from the effects of Chernobyl.

Working through our three community centres, Family-to-Family sponsorship and Family Care projects we provide for the basic needs of thousands of the poorest families.

Our vocational and educational training opportunites, such as sewing, carpentry, cookery and computing, give hundreds of people a chance to work. Other needs are met through free dental care and our Mother Care Project.

Thousands of people are reached nationwide through our Christian Radio programmes. In 2001, we expanded our child sponsorship programme to include thousands living in dilapidated and overcrowded orphanages in Ukraine.
